Andiroba oil is not only traditionally used by the Amazon Indians as a supportive measure for skin problems, rheumatism and arthritis - it is also used to protect against mosquitoes.

 In addition to the direct application on the skin, the forest dwellers make an anti-mosquito candle from andiroba oil and vegetable paraffin. With the citronella added to the current candles, the mixture proves to be an unbeatable duo when it comes to repelling mosquitoes. When burned, the oils evaporate, helping to repel mosquitoes in a natural and non-toxic way. The general rehearsal in spring on the Amazon was overwhelming: The candle is specially designed for rooms and burns with a very small flame, as it burns through the whole night in the huts and houses on the Amazon. The small flame extends the burning time and reduces the risk of fire without sacrificing the effect on mosquitoes.
